Internet and smartphone adoption have been steadily growing across Africa, driven by infrastructure improvements and cost reductions. While digitalization presents opportunities, changing business behaviors requires compelling value propositions and extensive education.

The team chose an early-market entry strategy: "When you're too late, you compete for market share; When you're too early, you're creating the market." Early movers gain competitive advantages through first-mover knowledge and established infrastructure that competitors must match.

The platform featured:

  • Microservices-based engineering infrastructure
  • Digital onboarding for business information and documentation
  • Complete transactional workflow from rate checks through trade execution
  • Semi-automated internal operations covering KYC/AML, treasury management, and reconciliation
  • Transaction history, account management, and security settings

The team concluded they were "Slightly too early, but close enough." Key decisions: not building all microservices initially, creating MVPs rather than complete journeys upfront, and prioritizing education over automation.
